Meet the founder

Hi, I’m Mr. Joy.

I’m Lawrence E. Joy, Jr., founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Joynity. I have spent more than 20 years working where people, operations, and technology meet. I enjoy understanding how things work, helping people feel comfortable, and building something that makes their day easier.

The story and the why

Joynity brings the work and the people together.

We build systems around actual needs.

What the work taught me

My career has put me in both the operations and IT seat. I have supported the person who needs help today and the leaders deciding what their organization needs next. I have led teams, worked through office moves and new building technology, connected systems, and helped people get comfortable with change.

I kept seeing a gap between the technology people chose and the way the work actually happened. A useful system needs to fit the people using it, the process around it, and the team that will keep it working. That is why I start by listening and learning the work.

What family brings to it

I come from a large multigenerational family. Helping someone stay connected, remember a familiar face, or feel comfortable asking for help matters to me. So does making it easier for the family or caregiver doing the supporting.

Joynity brings those parts of my life together. Moments keeps stories and familiar details close. Care helps people coordinate support. Protect offers patient technology help. Labs builds the systems behind everyday work. Powered by Joynity lets a useful system support another organization’s needs.

I built Joynity to make that kind of help easier to find: someone who will understand the need, explain the choices, and help carry the work forward. Born on Christmas, I have always felt connected to joy and warmth. Joynity brings joy and unity together through care, memory, connection, and practical support.

Prior professional experience

Experience I bring to Joynity

My background spans legal associations, healthcare, government, nonprofits, and growing businesses. These are some of the organizations and projects that shaped the way I work.

Enterprise operations and support

District of Columbia Bar

At the DC Bar, my work included enterprise operations, staff support, vendor coordination, and planning how technology services should be delivered.

That work meant keeping everyday support in view while considering staffing, vendors, and the next steps for the organization.

Modernization project work through YMT Consulting

Maryland State Bar Association

With the Maryland State Bar Association, I supported infrastructure improvements and the transition to an outside support provider. Different organizations needed different answers. That is the same practical approach I bring to Joynity.

A transition needs clear communication, documentation, and people who know what they own. Those are habits I bring into Joynity projects today.

Infrastructure architecture

Sutter Health

At Sutter Health, I worked across architecture, operations, security, and engineering on cloud and infrastructure modernization. Shared standards and clear documentation helped teams move from design into implementation.

Cybersecurity assessment and remediation planning

NARUC

My prior work with the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners included assessing a cybersecurity incident and helping plan improvements to controls, documentation, and response readiness.

This is prior professional experience that informs my work at Joynity. Organization names and logos identify that experience; they do not imply endorsement of Joynity.

My approach starts with listening.

Before I recommend a tool, I want to understand the people using it, the work they are doing, and where things are getting difficult. We look at what already works, who needs to be involved, and what the team can maintain. Then we move from a clear plan into implementation, training, and everyday use.

Listen first

Understand the real problem

Tell me what is happening, what feels difficult, and what you need to get done. We start there.

Simplify

Explain without overcomplicating

I explain your options in plain language so you can decide what makes sense for your time, effort, and money.

Design

Build something people can use

We turn the plan into useful steps, clear systems, and support that fits the way people actually live and work.

TEM | Time, Effort, Money

A good next step has to fit real life.

Every new system asks something of the people using it. TEM is how I look at their time, their effort, and their money together. It helps us choose what to do now, what we can reuse, and what will take support over time.

Time

Where does the work repeat, slow down, or wait on someone else? Can we make the next step easier to find?

Effort

What will it take to use the system, keep it current, and help people feel comfortable with it?

Money

What will it cost to build, run, support, and change? What can we use well before adding something new?

That conversation belongs in a family project, a small business system, and an organization’s technology roadmap.

Same approach, different needs.

A family memory book and a business operations system may look very different. Both begin with listening to the people who will use them. That is how Joynity finds the right way to help.

Joynity Moments

Support that feels familiar, comforting, and useful.

Joynity Moments grew from a family need: keep familiar faces, stories, routines, and helpful details close during aging, memory changes, and caregiving. The family handles the technology. The loved one holds something familiar. Family approval helps decide what becomes part of the book and app.

BatteryOps

A simple system for a busy operation.

BatteryOps began with an operator explaining what needed to be easier: keeping track of batteries, seeing what needed attention, and helping the team stay organized. Joynity Labs brought those needs into one practical system supporting battery operations across multiple regions. The work starts with the operation and the people running it.

Tell me where you need a hand.

You do not need to have the right technical words or a finished plan. Tell me what you are trying to do and where you need help. We will work out the next step together.

Let’s make the next step easier.

You bring the question. I will help you sort through the options and find a practical way forward.
